Blog Roundup

What happens when you take "1 Part CAD Site" and mix it (not shake it) with "1 Part AutoCAD RSS Feed Aggregator" or for those that know AutoLISP (+ "CAD Site" "AutoCAD RSS Feed Aggregator")?  I'm not sure, but if it was possible to derive a solution from the formula I am sure you would get something close to CADtutor.net.  While I have often visited CADtutor.net it wasn't until recently that I discovered that the site was aggregating many of the commonly visited AutoCAD and CAD related blogs in the industry.  It is a great way to keep up to date on what is happening in the industry as well as learn new tips and tricks about AutoCAD and other programs that you might use.  The link to the AutoCAD RSS Feed page on CADTutor.net is below:

Michael's Corner is also a great section of CADtutor.net to visit as well.  He has been writing a monthly column on various aspects of AutoCAD since 2003, with the exception of January of 2008 when he spent a few weeks away on vacation when I filled in for him.  Michael is a great guy and is always willing to help AutoCAD users when he can.

Sincerely,
  Lee

I'm back... Really never left, but I'm back to posting

Wow, I'm just amazed at myself how long I have neglected my blog.  While there has not been a week that hasn't gone by that I haven't thought about blogging, I just haven't found the time to do it between authoring and my daily workload.  I will be trying my best to get back into the swing of things, this month.  As some of you might have been wondering, no I have not completely vanished as I have been simply busy with my new job that I started back in November of 2007.

The rumors are true, I have gone to work for Autodesk and work on the AutoCAD User Assistance team as a Technical Writer.  Well time to get to work, but I will be getting my next posting up soon though.  It will be much sooner than later.

Sincerely,
  Lee

Where's Lee?

Some people have been wondering what happened to me, well unfortunately I have been busy with several different projects lately that are taking a lot of my time, and during this time I seemed to have forgotten that I had a blog for a little while.  Don't worry I have not forgotten my blog and everyone that stops by to read what I have to post.  Lately I have been spending most of my time working on my content for AU classes to make sure it is top notch, and as usual I am behind because of the amount of research that I find myself doing with anything different.  Along with preparing for AU, I have started work on a new book and a few other projects.  Unfortunately it is not my VBA book that I have been working on and off for the past few years, if all goes well my plan is to work on that book at the beginning of next year and get it done.

If you are heading to Autodesk University, feel free to drop on by and say "Hi" after one of my classes.  I am teaching two classes this year, a lecture and a lab.  My two classes are listed below:

CP21-1 Pushing AutoLISP® to the Limits
GD25-1L Visualizing Your Designs Like Never Before

Hope to see you at AU

Sincerely,
  Lee

AU 2006 Blog

Au2006_logo
Do you have the yearning for some learning? Every year Autodesk helps put on Autodesk University (AU) which takes place in late November early December and is 4 days of non-stop classes and networking with 4,000+ attendees, and industry leaders. We are rapidly approaching the registration period for this years Autodesk University event which will be held this year in Las Vegas, NV at the Venetian. This year Autodesk is not only supporting the event with a website for registration, but it looks like they have launched a blog for the event as well which is a great idea. While the blog just went live at the beginning of the month, it is a perfect way to keep attendees up to date on the latest events and changes.

The AU Online blog can be found at: http://auol.wordpress.com/

Check out the new blog and don't forget to check out the AU 2006 website for the latest information on classes and registration.  See yeah in Las Vegas, now I have to go searching the couch cushions for some loose change so I can get out there.

Sincerely,
  Lee

Ted Boardman Joins the Blogging Community

Just today I got notification from Ted Boardman that he has launched his own blog.  So who is Ted Boardman you might ask?  Well if you don't know who Ted is and you are using 3ds Max or Viz, you might want to do some reading as he is one of the best in the industry on both 3ds Max and Viz.  He is a well accomplished author (books and articles) and trainer in the world of 3D visualization with 3ds Max and Viz.  You can find Ted help others out on the Internet through tutorials on CGArchitect, conducting classes in Green Bay WI at Virtual Partners, at Autodesk University, and many other places.  I have met Ted in a number of places, and have even taken a class from him at Virtual Partners a few years back.  He is a great guy and he really knows his subject matter when it comes to teaching those that have been using 3ds Max for a while, and those that are completely new to the program.  If you are looking for training on 3ds Max, I would highly recommend that you take a class that is taught by Ted.

Blog Neglect

As many might have noticed, or not have noticed for that fact since nothing new has been posted in roughly two months I have been neglecting my blog along with my web site, bad bad bad. Anyways now that is out of the way, I will be returning to some of my normal blog and website posting over the next few weeks.  I have been involved with a couple long projects since before AU 2005 that have been taking much of my time, have to feed the family.  Some of these projects will be showing up in the up coming months which will be nice to have them seen by others.  Hope everyone is having a great new year, hard to believe we are already 1 1/2 months into the new year already. Now time to get back into the swing of things.

Sincerely,
  Lee

HyperPics and Other Blogs Appear in Autodesk Survey

It has just been pointed out to me that Autodesk is running a survey on industry related blogs.  They are looking for feedback on whether blogs are a valuable source of information to you on topics in the CAD industry.  The questions range from how many times you read blogs to the type of blogs that you read.  It is an interesting survey, so if you want to take the survey; head on over to the Autodesk website.

Sincerely,
  Lee

Welcome to the Blogging Community Jane Smith

The CAD Blogging Community just got a little bigger recently. Fellow CAD user Jane Smith has launched her venture into the blogging world with the blog "Using Raster Design with AutoCAD". Jane is a great individual and I look forward to the information that she has to share. From the postings and the name of the blog I am sure she will be covering Raster Design and AutoCAD.

Sincerely,

Blog Comments and TrackBacks

Hello all out there... it has been a very wild and crazy last couple of months, but hope to be post on a more frequent basis.  I have been working on some projects for my website (coming soon features and content) and for other companies, so that is were most of my attention has been lately.  The reason why I am posting tonight is that I have recently noticed some abuse taking place on my blog, so I have decided to implement one of the newest features that TypePad provides to its bloggers.

Many of my fellow bloggers use the feature as well, but due to some poor in taste trackbacks and comments that I have been deleting from the blog posts it has forced me to implement the approval system for all comments and trackbacks.  So if you do post comments please continue to do so and if the comments are appropriate content they will be approved with no problems.  This is to simply stop those that attempt to use web forums and blogs as a way to transport spam across the net.

Sincerely,
  Lee
