Windows XP by default displays a Welcome screen which allows you to select an icon to quickly log into the computer from there. If you are using a computer for work or want added sequrity you can change it back to the classic logon screen which can be found in Windows 2000 and prior. To enable the classic logon screen follow the setps below:
Note: The Welcome Screen is only available if the computer is not part of a domain, but can be a part of a Workgroup.
1. Go to the start button and select Control Panel.
2. Click on the "User Accounts" category.
3. Click the "Change the way users log on or off" option.
4. Uncheck the "Use the Welcome screen" Option and click the "Apply options" button.
5. Restart the computer and you will not need to type in the User name and the password.
Sincerely,
Lee
Lee,
I could be wrong but Fast User switching is only available if you do not belong to a domain.

Shaan,
Good catch... not running a domain here at home and wasn't thinking that it would affect this feature, but you are right it does. I thought that it was more of a policies controlled feature. I have added a note to the article to reflect this.
Thanks,
Lee Ambrosius
