I think it is time to retire my 256MB USB drive for a new 5GB potable storage device. Just imagine... it would be possible now to carry a large portion of your MP3s over to a friend's house or to work with you. The other nice thing about having 5GB of storage is that you could actually install an OS and have some room left on it. For about $170 dollars it is well worth it as a backup device that is portable and small enough to store in a laptop bag. I wonder if Santa will be getting me one this year...

The Seagate product you mentioned is not a bad choice but there are larger portable drives out there. I use a Lacie 80GB portable drive that uses BOTH USB 2.0 and Firewire. I like it because it is very small (pocket sized) requires not external power supply and I can carry EVERTHING! with me (MP3's, programs, 3D renderings and animations, all my email since 1996, etc....)
