Ted Boardman Joins the Blogging Community

Just today I got notification from Ted Boardman that he has launched his own blog.  So who is Ted Boardman you might ask?  Well if you don't know who Ted is and you are using 3ds Max or Viz, you might want to do some reading as he is one of the best in the industry on both 3ds Max and Viz.  He is a well accomplished author (books and articles) and trainer in the world of 3D visualization with 3ds Max and Viz.  You can find Ted help others out on the Internet through tutorials on CGArchitect, conducting classes in Green Bay WI at Virtual Partners, at Autodesk University, and many other places.  I have met Ted in a number of places, and have even taken a class from him at Virtual Partners a few years back.  He is a great guy and he really knows his subject matter when it comes to teaching those that have been using 3ds Max for a while, and those that are completely new to the program.  If you are looking for training on 3ds Max, I would highly recommend that you take a class that is taught by Ted.

Where did the time go?

Wow, have I been slacking in the blogging department. After my most recent post, yesterday, I just noticed that there was over a month and a half that I didn't blog anything. Well over the past month and a half I have been diverting a lot of my extra time to my web site, it has been neglected for way to long. When the website was originally launched back in 1996 - 1998 as a few pages under my AOL account at the time the web site was for the most part nothing very fancy, but then again what was back in those days.  Anyways, as the site grew and moved to its own domain much of the original aspects of the design still were kept; however the site changed and evolved into a much more complex site that became very tough to manage and update.

After about 6+ years of updates and attempts to overhaul the site it just became and more messed up and ended up with about 4 - 5 different looks and formats to the site.  While the transition has not been fully completed yet, the site should be much easier to navigate, easier to go through and most importantly of all will have a uniform look and feel to the entire site.  Once this transition period is done, I will be able to refocus on delivering new content again.

Mail Bag - How do I rotate the crosshairs in AutoCAD 2007?

Just recently I have received an e-mail about how one could rotate the crosshairs in AutoCAD 2007.  The user said he was able to do this in AutoCAD 2006 with easy, but was not able to do this easily in AutoCAD 2007. Being curious about this issue, I set out to find out what is different between the two releases. Well in AutoCAD 2007 the Snap and Grid tab of the Drafting Settings dialog box has been revamped and in the process the option to change the Snap Angle has been lost between AutoCAD 2006 and AutoCAD 2007. Since this was the common way to set the value from the user interface you must now resort to using the system variable SNAPANG to rotate the crosshairs.  Below is a procedure for changing the SNAPANG system variable.

1. At the Command prompt, enter SNAPANG.
2. At the prompt, Enter new value for SNAPANG <0>: type a new angle value and press ENTER.
